This wonderfully preserved timber house (pictured right) is located at the northern tip of Pietrusza Wola, one of a number of picturesque villages and settlements which make up the rural district of Wojzowka.

Set within the Czarnorzecko-Strzyzowski preservation area, Wojzowka is a patchwork of farm land, rivers, forest and semi-mountainous landscapes peppered with dwellings of a similar wooden construction.

Wojzowka has plenty of stunning scenery, great walking and biking trails, and sites of natural, cultural and historical interest. There is also an abundance of shops, restaurants and bars in neighbouring Krosno and the outlying areas.

Attention – this is “Wild Poland”!

The Czarnorzecko-Strzyzowski Park is a unique habitat of dense forest, rich flora, wild flower meadows and mountain pastures, where only traditional farming methods are used. This allows a stunning array of wild-life to thrive, in particular, rare butterflies, black storks and various species of eagle and owl, and at least nine species of wild bat. There is also a large population of wild boar, and roe deer are a very familiar site, as ae pine martins and polecats, which often nest in the roof spaces of local dwellings.

Foraging, Wild food and log cabin holidays

If you have an interest in foraging and wild food, then this could be the holiday for you! Wild food expert and renowned Polish botanist Łukasz Łuczaj holds foraging and ethno-botanical workshops in the neighbouring village of Rzepnik in the spring, summer and autumn months.

Krosno

Krosno has a large, cobbled market square, ancient tenement houses, medieval churches, and a huge open air market every morning. There are plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars dotted around the square, offering anything from Italian to Arabic cuisine and with plenty of outside seating the summer months, the square really comes alive and becomes the venue for a number of open events and festivals. It’s just a 20 minute drive from the Log Cabin, or you can take the bus from outside the kindergarten next door directly to Krosno bus station

Frysztak Lido

Open during the school summer holidays, this is a modern complex of three outdoor swimming pools built in 1998, including a children’s pool & slide, a leisure pool and a sports pool. There are extensive grassy areas for sun bathing, plus changing rooms, toilets, cafe, and free wifi. Extremely popular with locals when it’s hot and just a ten minute drive.

THE MICOR BREWERY IN WOJKOWKA

This is the very first artisan brewery to open in the region’s recent history and is proving very popular. The brewery is located in a stylish historic building on the banks of the Wislok river. Visitors can watch the fermenting process in action, and sup the end product in the brewery bar. Bar meals are also available, and in summer, BBQ’s can be enjoyed on the terrace overlooking the river. Only 3 miles from the log cabin, you can class this as your local!

The KAMIENIEC INN

The Kamieniec Inn is an excellent road-side Polish Restaurant, with bright, spacious interiors, a bar, and plenty of outside seating at the back in summer. Sample the very best of Polish Cuisine at this easy-to-find spot on the main road to Krosno and less than a 10 minute drive from the log cabin.

Walking and Cycling

The whole of Poland is "free to roam", so knock yourself out!

There are 20 acres of woodland and mountain pasture belonging to the log cabin itself. We have built a landscaped a pathway up the hill by the mountain stream, with benches placed here and there. There is also a beautiful forest trail that stretches up the more gentle hillside across the road. A pleasant stroll through the valley will take you to the neighbouring village of Rzepnik, with its’ old Orthodox Church standing alongside one of the oldest oak trees in Poland.

The wider Czarnorzecko-Strzyzowski Park has some fantastic walking and biking trails of varying distances and levels of difficulty. We have provided a number of mountain bikes should you wish to try some of them out, and there is a 16 mile circular bike ride that can be started from right outside the cabin.
Taking in views of Kamieniec Castle, and a number of old churches, the route passes through the neighbouring village of Rzepnik, Węglówka (where the world’s first oil wells can be found), the Dynowskie foothills, the Odrzykoń flats (passing by the Kamieniec ruins), the chapel at Bratkówka, climbing through the hamlet of Wolka and the BRATKOWSKI Mountains, finishing with the descent back into Rzepnik village. The average journey time is 1.5 hours and includes climbs of up to 370 m.
If you are interested in more walking routes, there is a beautiful and relatively easy 1 mile walk starting at the Kamieniec ruins (see below), taking in dramatic views of "Royal Mountain" (541 m), and Gora (585 m), the Spinner rocks, and passing through the Odrzykon forest. It takes about 1.5 hours and includes elevations of up to 150m.

Spinners" & Kamieniec Castle

Lying about 15 miles away are the Spinners (or Przadki) - a unique geological phenomenon honed out of the landscape by over 55 million years of natural erosion. These spectacular sandstone rocks rise over 20 metres high.
Created in 1957 the whole Przadki nature reserve comprises 34 acres of excellent hiking and biking trails, and towering out of the rocks are the beautiful gothic ruins of Kamieniec Castle - a 14th Century stronghold built to protect south eastern Poland from attacks by Russia and Hungary.
Part of the castle is open to visitors, and includes a small museum of military exhibits which showcase the history of the stronghold. The castle bar is also a great place to stop for a drink and makes for a very atmospheric spot night out in summer.

Poland was a very pleasant surprise to us. We originally went with the intention of visiting the Schindler’s Museum and Auschwitz, however, we were enjoying the Krosno area so much that we decided to save that for another visit.
